SPEAKER: Brian Masterson, Director of Public Safety, Rohnert Park,
TOPIC: “Human Trafficking on the Local Scene”
If you think human trafficking is concentrated only in the inner cities or certainly not in Sonoma County, you would be wrong. Brian Masterson, Director of Public Safety for the City of Rohnert Park since 2008, will tell us otherwise. What is it? It’s the trade of humans, mainly for the purpose of forced labor, prostitution, sexual slavery, and sometimes for the removal of organs. It’s a $32 billion-a-year industry and is on the rise in all 50 states. Sonoma County has established a Human Trafficking Task Force. Since 2011, 161 human trafficking and prostitution cases have been filed by the District Attorney’s office.
Brian Masterson will give us some grim statistics and explain what is being done locally to stem this insidious practice. If you do an Internet search for Human Trafficking in Sonoma County, you will understand why our local public safety, sheriff and police departments remain vigilant and work to eradicate human trafficking.
Director Masterson was born in New York City into a family of law enforcement officers. He holds a BS in Criminal Justice, an MS in Organizational Management and is a graduate of the FBI National Academy. He spent 28 years with the Alameda County Sheriff’s Office before being selected as Director of Public Safety in Rohnert Park.

Welcome New Members…
Our club had a wonderful brunch for new members at the beautiful home of Rosalie Bulach. Thank you Rosalie, for hosting! Some 20 club members and invited guests attended. The event started with Mimosas which were a big hit. All who participated brought lots of good food (and good for you foodies) in addition to the Southern Biscuits and Gravy from yours truly. Our President, Nancy, did a yeoman's job in relaying the history of our organization, our activities and goals. A lovely time was had by all and we are pleased to announce we have three new members! Please join us for September evening meeting and, invite a friend or two. Also, don't forget spouses are always welcome and can join our Club as an Associate Member.
2017 Members Rosters have been mailed or handed out to each dues paying member.
