SPEAKER: TOM SCHWEDHELM
TOPIC UPDATE ON HOT TOPICS IN SANTA ROSA
Which worries you the most? Homelessness? The cannabis law? Courthouse Square reunification? SR as a “sanctuary city”? Or rent control? Tom Schwedhelm, Santa Rosa Councilman since 2014, will discuss all these topics and how the city plans to deal with them.
Of course we are concerned about the homeless, especially on freezing nights. Because these folks are so visible, we might believe nothing is being done to solve the problem. Tom says, “People think they are helping by taking blankets, food, and other items to the encampments.” It’s just the opposite; it exacerbates the problem. Tom is the city’s representative on the SR Homeless Collective comprised of more than a dozen other organizations that address this issue. He will update us on any actions to be taken.
A straight-talker, Schwedhelm appreciates “conversation” and is hoping to generate interest, many questions, and perhaps ideas about these five city issues.
His name should be quite familiar. In addition to being a Santa Rosa Councilman, he worked for 31 for the Santa Rosa Police Department, serving as its Chief of Police his final five years of service. He has degrees in Administration of Justice, Business Management, and Psychology: Organizational Development. He and his wife Jackie live in Santa Rosa and have two adult children
